Welcome to the Gallery.
Oil, gouache, watercolour, mixed media, plein air, handmade paper pulp — all surfaces are fair game. Here is three decades of looking at the world and painting what it could be.
Flowers
The fragility of a flower is a window into the realm of spirit — a means of expressing her own inner flowering, and the awakening of her own spirit. Flowing, harmonious, luxurious. Paradise on Earth is possible.
The Figure
Classically trained in Europe, Jill studied the human figure — creating oils and works on paper. She boldly executed large paintings depicting the movement of dancers at The Boston Ballet, exhibited at Boston Symphony.
Spiritual Renderings
Angels, light, the geometry of the sacred — rendered in flowing gouache and mixed media, luminous with the current that has moved through her since 1961.
Dolphins
The Dolphin is her totem — joy made visible, community made flesh, radical harmony made real in every leap. Each canvas in this series is not a portrait of an animal. It is a portrait of a possibility.
House Portraits & Buildings
Every great building has a soul. Jill paints it before it is forgotten. She is commissioned to paint House Portraits all over the world — in a classical American naïve style, mixed media, trompe l’oeil.
Furniture & Objects
All surfaces are fair game. Jill hand-paints furniture, upholstery, floor coverings, tile, glass, and more — complete interior environments conceived as paintings.
Interiors
Jill paints Trompe l’Oeille murals to bring the outside inside. Oils on canvas. Watercolour, pen and ink, gouache. The painted word as a vehicle to communicate artfully deeper truths.
Landscapes
Plein air — made popular in the late 1800s — requires the artist to paint outdoors in nature. Jill has been blessed to live in beautiful places worldwide and loves plein-air painting most of all. In 1981 she received a grant to paint at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, California. She rose at 4 a.m. in Nepal and India in 1988.
Palm Beach
Jill’s Palm Beach renderings. The Society of the Four Arts. The Flagler Museum. Mimi’s Garden. The Coi Pond. Watercolour, gouache, pen and ink — the built and planted world she calls home.
India & Nepal
Jill’s first journey to Nepal and India in 1988 was so inspiring that she rose at 4 to capture the light, and painted daily. Biki Oberoi, to whom she was introduced in New Delhi, invited her to come back to India to exhibit her paintings, which she did in 1992 at the Oberoi, New Delhi. Her exhibition was favourably reviewed by all the major press.
Europe & Camino
The Camino de Santiago. Kilkenny. Paris. Spoleto. Jill walks and paints — watercolour, pen and ink, gouache. A record of the light in every latitude.
Tiles & Murals
Lucid, flowing, two-dimensional but sculptural in their rich textures. Jill paints tiles, murals, and complete surface environments. Cosmic gardens. Visions of angels. The painted word as deeper truth.
Handmade Paper
Made at the Rugg Road Paper Making Studio — no paint in these images. Jill painted entirely with paper pulp. Cosmonaut Angel. Garden in the Cosmos. Irises. The Airmail Letter. Each one sculpted from the material itself.
